Total Score: 7.58 - GOOD

Introduction:
Sometimes, you just want to tie one on, toss it out, and crank it up. Abu Garcia realizes that moving baits are a staple of any bass fisherman's arsenal and in the recent refresh of their Mike Iaconelli signature series of rods, they included a collection of seven rods in a sub-series dubbed "Delay" just for this. We got our hands on one to see how fun it is to fish. Here's our take on Abu Garcia's IKE Delay Series MIKECW710-6. .

Introducing Abu Garcia's IKE Delay Series MIKECW710-6

Impressions: While the other sticks in Abu Garcia's Mike Iaconelli line of signature rods feature blanks made from 36 ton graphite, the Delay sub-series features blanks of this same material blended with high strain glass for that extra, buttery feel when you've hooked a fish. The rod's taper is moderate to match the typical profile of a stick made for moving baits.

A look at the rod's iridescent finish

It is built with a split rear grip of EVA foam with the front portion of that handle molded just like the one found in the previously reviewed MIKE76-6. The MIKE710-6 is a long, seven foot, ten inch (7'-10") casting stick rated up to one full ounce in lure weight and built with stainless steel framed guides with Zirconium inserts. Thanks to it's composite blank build, the rod weighs in at a somewhat hefty six point one (6.1) ounces.

The Delay Series is delineated with subtle green accents

Real World Tests: I fished this stick with both the Revo4 IKE and Beast casting reels with all three line types (nylon monofilament, fluorocarbon, braid) over the course of several trips to get a feel for the stick's performance and handling.

Underspin fish!

Casting: The MIKECW710-6 is rated only to one full ounce in lure weight, but rest assured, it can handle more. During this stage of its tests, I tied on some glide baits weighing close to two ounces to see how the stick handled. Thanks to the rod's length and forgiving glass composite blank, you can stretch those casting limits pretty far by using underhanded lob casts.

The blank is made from a blend of high strain glass and graphite

If you'd rather not push the limits and want to fish the stick within its lure rating, rest assured, it handles baits in that rated range just fine. I threw a lot of vibrating jigs, lipless cranks, underspins and the like with this stick and found its best use in situations where long casts are paramount. Its length makes it a little difficult in tight quarters.

Guides are SS frames with Zirconium inserts
