Storm's Latest Dance Craze, the Arashi Glide (continued)

Design/Ergonomics: The Arashi Glide is available in nine different colors and comes stock with good performing hooks. Most big bait aficionados religiously swap out their hooks. I've become rather indifferent to this practice over the last couple of years mostly because I'm too lazy but also because stock hooks these days are better than what they used to be and are, for the most part, good enough for my purposes. Each bait also comes with a spare tail in the retail packaging.

A nice little design feature not often found in baits that are mass produced like this one is the swiveling hook ties at the bottom of this bait. Because these loops rotate, fish can't get good leverage on the bait as you fight them. This helps reduce the occurrence of fish throwing the bait as they jump giving you a better hook up to landing ratio.

Price & Application: When a company with the right resources produces a bait like this, the good news is they usually do so in a manner that results in a bait that's more affordable than those produced by the smaller, boutique bait makers. Such is the case with Storm's Arashi Glide. Offered at $37.99, it's still at a bit of a premium compared to say, River 2 Sea's S-Wave or Lucky Craft's Real Ayu, but it's still at a much more affordable price point than the product from Gan Craft or Roman Made - the manufactures that popularized a lot of this glide bait craze.

Pluses and Minuses:

Plus

Minus
+ Nice balance between run of the mill and unobtainable - Colors are good, but also kind of ordinary
+ Stock hooks are sharp
+ Super easy to throw
+ Easy to work

Conclusion: There was a time when quality glide baits were few and far between, and to fish one of the really good ones anglers would need to not only search for one of the custom limited baits, but have to pay a premium. Baits like the R2S S-Waver helped make glide baits mainstream with affordable options and with the improvements in mass production it seems everyone is jumping into the game. I have somewhat mixed feelings about writing a review about this particular bait. It is a good one, and it is also a truly affordable option. Baits like this make me ask myself is I should hold off writing about them for a bit so that I can load up on them, and perhaps nail some more quality fish with them before everyone and their brother is out on the water conditioning the fish to its allure. Does the fishermen in me take over or does evil tackle reviewer "Cal" win out?

Storm's new Arashi Glide bait strikes a reasonable medium between affordability and quality

Okay, all kidding aside, if you've been holding out on the glide bait craze, or been wanting to upgrade your collection, or find something more affordable to throw, Storm's new Arashi Glide bait strikes a reasonable medium between affordability and quality to inspire an angler in either situation. The only thing missing from really sending this bait over the top are some limited run or next level color schemes. Offer that and even seasoned enthusiasts might be dancing on the front decks of their boats.
