Lure Review

Reaction Innovation's New One Two Shiver Punch (continued)

Durability : Because the bait's head and body are relatively substantial compared to their similarly sized baits, each Shiver Shot I fished seemed to last through more bites than usual. In fact, the only time I really had to pull out a new bait was when the one I was using inexplicably shook off during the battle with a fish. Granted, thanks to the bait's compact size, this did not happen very often. You definitely can get your money's worth out of these baits.

At the time of this writing, the working name for this bait was the Shiver Shad.

Nearly identical to the Shiver Shot, the Shiver Shad is a larger bait measuring 5.25" and includes the pectoral fin appendages.

Design & Ergonomics: For now, the Shiver Shot comes in 14 different colors. These selections will no doubt grow as the bait gains popularity. Each re-sealable bag contains 10 baits and there is no built in scent that we know of or could detect. Reaction Innovations does not generally use fish attractants in their soft plastic formula or bait packaging.

But the Shiver Shad has a slit down its belly for Texas rigging.

Same split/fork tail.

Price & Applications: Each pack of 10 baits retails for $4.79 for a per bait breakdown of $0.48 per bait. Just under that $0.50 threshold we like to keep an eye on for soft plastic baits. The shiver shot is not only good as a drop shot bait, but you can use it as a finesse trailer on jigs, spinnerbaits, and smaller buzzbaits.

It can be fished a number of ways including as a weighted or unweighted soft plastic fluke.

We gave it a whirl rigged on a small ball head jighead.

If you like the look of this bait but would really like a larger size, there's good news. Reaction Innovations is set to release a new five and a quarter inch version of this bait (code name Shiver Shad) that works really well as a weighted or un-weighted fluke, the back end of a chatterbait, swimjig, etc.. Exact details on the final name, pricing, and available colors were still being worked out at the time of this writing.

Quite a bit larger than the original.

Pluses and Minuses:

+ Great finesse bait size - For those who prefer it, no fish attracting scent in the packaging or soft plastic itself
+ Lifelike shape and appeal
+ Soon to be available in a larger fluke-like size

Whether you fish the "shot" or "shad", Reaction Innovations new Shiver line holds a lot of promise.

Conclusion: By Reaction Innovations standards, the Shiver Shot and soon to be released Shiver Shad are relatively quiet both in terms of introductory fan fare and name (ok, mostly by name). We were quite excited to see a new finesse bait alternative and the Shiver Shot certainly did not disappoint. More anglers will likely get excited over the new Shiver Shad which so far has produced for us as a soft plastic fluke bait alternative. Whether you fish the "shot" or "shad," both baits hold a lot of promise.
