The latest addition to the Plano
EDGE Series is designed specifically for Frogs
Impressions: I previously reviewed the
Plano EDGE Series when it first launched a few seasons ago. Since then, Pure
Fishing has continued to expand the lineup with new, application-specific boxes
under the Plano brand. These additions maintain the same design formula and
styling that made the EDGE series so popular, while increasingly catering to
more specialized storage needs for specific types of baits and fishing
applications.
The Edge Series makes use a steel
hinged one-handed latch
Among the newest EDGE boxes are the vertical jig/spybait box, hook box, line
management box, micro jig box, swimbait box, and today's focus, the Frog Box.
The Frog Box, designed for soft-bodied lures, is the latest in the series and
features the hallmark traits of Plano's EDGE lineup, including durable plastic
and polycarbonate construction, a one-handed latch design, and an O-ring seal
for waterproof protection when closed. With dimensions of 14"L x 6.25"W x
5.25"H, it's also one of the taller EDGE boxes, offering ample storage for
hollow-bodied frogs.
Inside anglers will find five
crossbars which have 10 posts on each side
Real World Tests: To test the Plano Frog
Box, I filled it with a variety of frogs and used it just like any other storage
box, both on the boat and from shore. While I do enjoy tying on a frog,
especially here in the California Delta, I wouldn’t call myself a frog fishing
aficionado. Watching pro anglers and die-hard froggers bring these hollow-bodied
frogs to life is like witnessing an art form in topwater fishing. I had thought
my frog collection was solid, but the ample storage space in this box also made
me realize I need to step up my game.
Frogs are hung vertically so their
bodies and skirts are not tangled or compressed
Operation: The standout feature of the Frog Box is its vertical storage
system, which holds soft-bodied frogs by their line ties - unlike most boxes
that store them horizontally like traditional hard-bodied baits. Each box
includes 50 of these hooks, with ten positioned on each of the removable posts,
making it quick and easy to stow and access your frogs.
To remove a frog simply lift up
the bar
I was impressed by the capacity of the box, it can truly hold 50 frogs, and that
includes some of the largest ones on the market. The vertical storage system
offers more than just organization; it prevents the skirts and legs of the frogs
from being crushed or developing memory, a common issue with tight horizontal
storage. Not only do the baits retain their shape, but they also dry quickly.
The included WaterWick reusable moisture-wicking packet further helps keep both
the frogs and the interior dry.
These bars can also be completely
removed for access and organization
