Introduction:
Did our headline catch your attention? Are you familiar with the St. Croix product? Several years ago, St. Croix upped the ante on their top end "Legend Elite" series by introducing the "Legend Xtreme" - a stripped down, stylized, tuned version of the original. This coming year, they're doing the same with their bread and butter Avid series. That's right, for 2015 St. Croix's Avid Series gets the X - as in EXTREME.

Introducing St. Croix's new Avid X series!

Avid X: The new Avid X series will be built on the same blanks as the original (SCIII) but instead of a full rear grip and foregrip, standard sized Alconite Guides, etc., St. Croix is offering a split rear grip, minimal foregrip design.

A new hook keeper should not fail /interfere with your line.

They're also changing up the guides using Kigan Z microguides with zirconia rings and stainless steel frames finished in gunsmoke. The Flex Coat around the guide wraps is slow cured to ensure long lasting durability and no premature cracking.

Titanium alloy frames with SiC inserts throughout the series!

The grips themselves are made from a select grade cork material framing up a Fuji ECS reel seat with gunsmoke hoods. Lastly, St. Croix is introducing a new hook keeper designed to accommodate a wide array of hook and bait options.

There will be a total of 18 models (spinning and casting combined) including two 2-piece models built for bass and walleye anglers. MSRP on the new Avid X will be between $200 - $210 - backed by St. Croix's Superstar Service.

Conclusion: What better way to infuse new life into a series and answer criticisms that a line is too conservative, than to offer up the same blanks with new, contemporary stylings and components? St. Croix's new Avid X will give anglers a new, more stylish option to choose from and one that sits below the premium Legend Xtreme and Legend Tournament series yet above the Mojo and Rage. Yet loyal fans of the original Avid series will still have their trusted, traditional lengths, actions, and builds to rely upon as well. It's the best of both worlds and a very smart move by St. Croix.
