Who’s the Boss? Accurate Rolls out the Dauntless

Date: 8/24/13
Location: Las Vegas, NV
Admission: Buyers & Press Only
Manufacturer: Accurate
Reviewer: Zander

Introduction: When it comes to fishing for the biggest baddest fish in the sea many offshore anglers turn to Accurate. Known for sheer power under pressure the Boss reels dole out plenty of torque and this season the company rolls out a new model, meet the dauntless DX2 reels.

Accurate's new Boss, the Dauntless

The DX2 picks up right where the BX2 left off and is also built out of lightweight 6061 T6 aircraft aluminum. The guts of these new reels feature heat treated stainless steel gears and a larger 17-4 heated gear shaft for even more torque. Twin synced dogs are included for increased stopping power and each reel is also loaded with 6 ABEC-5 rated stainless steel bearings.

The reel features a larger stronger gear shaft for increased torque

The Dauntless reels feature two speed mechanisms that deliver instant solid engagement and the lever drag makes it easy to pre-calibrate for accurate settings. These reels are designed for everything from everyday angling to trolling for pelagic species and deep water fishing. The Dauntless reels will be available in 400, 500 and 600 sizes and have plenty of capacity for super braids. These reels look sharp and like other Accurate reels they feature a polished aluminum finish and are also anodized. The new DX2 reels will retail from $629-$679 dollars dpeneding on size.

These are high end offerings and each twindrag reel has a unique laser imaged serialized I.D. number

Accurate does do custom orders as well and if you want your Boss reels in a special anodized color the company does do special work if you contact them and explain what you are looking for. An example of this were the reels at the booth for Capt. Dave Marciano, of National Geographic’s Wicked Tuna fame, who had Accurate build up special green reels which are designed to tackle big fish on film.

Accurate also introduced new Piranha plies

Though the reels are no doubt the stars at Accurate the company also has a lineup of tools, and this season they are refreshing their hardcore pliers. The new Piranha pliers have now been redesigned to be lighter and stronger.

The new pliers are machined more aggressively for weight reduction

The handles are now further machined for a lighter more ergonomic overall package. These pliers are engineered for removing hooks, crimping soft lead sleeves, forming wire connection and cutting superlines. Machined out of aircraft-grade aluminum these pliers are also anodized for corrosion resistance and the tungsten carbide jaws and cutters can be switched out.

Big reels or buff pliers, Accurate has big game anglers covered

The Piranha pliers will be available in 8” and 7” sizes and like the company’s reels are manufactured right here in America. The pliers will retail from $89.99 to $99.99 depending on the size and there will also be other available options including a split tip jaw kit, safety lanyards and sheaths. Bottom lime, these pliers look like the “Boss.”
