Introduction:
Humminbird’s success with their side-imaging technology has been well documented obviously, very well received. Earlier this year, they released a software enhancement providing down scan imagery as detailed as their side imaging extending the life and usability of existing units. So at ICAST, rather than introduce something equally as exciting, instead, the company concentrated on enhancing the visibility of existing models - literally.

A new LED screen for the 1100 series.

The new top end 1100 series will be the 1198 with an improved LED screen for better clarity and brighter performance, and a new operating system based on the Linux platform. What does this mean? Faster response time through menus and greater potential for software enhancements in the future to extend the life of your units.

Humminbird leverages the portability of their 385ci.

Also new with these units will be Ethernet capability making it easier to share information between units including sonar and GPS information. We inquired whether this means sharing of map data as well and all we got was a smile - no confirmed yes, no confirmed no.. just a smile.

With rail attachments so you can use it as a GPS on your ATV...

The 500 series models will receive screen upgrades as well with many of them getting full 640x640 resolution instead of 640x480.

... or mount it in your car with this windshield attachment ...

Humminbird’s new ICE Series portable extends the usability and portability of their popular 385ci for ice fishing. Imagine using this sonar unit on your boat or kayak during warmer months and when the ice sets in, taking this same unit, with all your GPS waypoints and coordinates on it, mounting it on your ATV, and driving to these same spots that are now iced over.

... then you can drive your vehicle to the same spots, over the ice, that you used your boat to access when the lake is thawed out.

Humminbird, in cooperation with RAM, will be providing all the mounting options as additional accessories for your 385ci so you can use it year around in colder climates

Adam Broughton shows us what's new with Humminbird.

Conclusion: By transitioning operating systems, increasing the resolution of their displays, and thinking about true, year around usability of their sonar and GPS units, Humminbird is working hard to refine their products and answer to the end users’ true needs.
