Lew's Enters Enthusiast Segment With New Elite Series

Date: 7/22/22
Tackle Type: Rods & Reels
Manufacturer: Lew's
Reviewer: Cal

Introduction:
Once a manufacturer with a somewhat modest catalog of product, Lew's suite of casting reels alone now amounts to over two dozen models. The majority of which can be considered quite accessible. That's part of the reason for the popularity of the brand - they offer anglers a host of reliable options without breaking the bank. For 2023, Lew's speeds things up and reaches out into the Enthusiast space.

HyperSpeed LFS: Already available at TackleWarehouse, Lew's steps into the high speed reel race with their HyperSpeed LFS. This one-piece aluminum framed reel features a 9.5:1 gear ratio, aluminum gear sideplate, and six-pin centrifugal brake system (QuietCast). It is equipped with a max, 20lb rated carbon drag and a hardened, anodized aluminum alloy Speed Gear precision cut on Hamai CNC machines. The bowed, aluminum handle measures 95mm and is finished with EVA grips. Available in both left and right hand retrieve, the HyperSpeed LFS retails for $199.99.

Pro-Ti SLP: Coming off of its TT Editor's Choice Award win in 2020, Lew's Pro-Ti SLP receives an update for 2023 with an even lower profile design and a recessed brake dial for better ergonomics. Inside, the reel's main gear is a hardened aluminum alloy Speed Gear and a double bearing supported pinion (P2 Super Pinion). Equipped with 11 bearings and a 95mm bowed carbon handle, projected weight for the new Pro-Ti SLP is 6.2 ounces. It will be available in both left and right hand retrieve in the single gear ratio of 7.5:1. Retail price is expected at $379.99.

Elite-Ti SLP & Elite Rods: Taking things a step further, new atop Lew's lineup of low profile reels for 2023 is the Elite-Ti SLP. This reel features similar ergonomics to the new Pro-Ti SLP but comes with the manufacturer's new, ParaMag braking system. To match the new Elite-Ti SLP, Lew's is introducing their Elite Series rods featuring their new, exclusive LFS-X5 blanks. These thin diameter, light weight blanks will be finished with Fuji SiC Guides and Winn Dri-Tac Ultra Grips featuring Lew's exclusive ProWeave. There will be 13 models of the new Elite Series rods each retailing for $349.99. The Elite-Ti SLP will be available in both left and right hand retrieve in the single gear ratio of 7.5:1 and retail for $499.99.

Our Quick Take: Lew's has continued to increase the breadth of their product offering and raise the bar in both thier reel and rod lineup. This season the introduction of the Elite-Ti SLP reels and Elite rods demonstrates the brand's commitment to offering higher-end products. The company has also gone all-in on their Winn style grips in their premium products giving their family of products an instantly recognizable look and feel.
